Most random NYC job to date. Trying a role in acting, playing an art currator in

Sarah Michelle Gellars new come-back television show Ringer. The series

involves Sarah playing the role of her dead twin sister, taking over her life

to have revenge on a former lover... and possible murderer. We have been

filming in the Meatpacking District for three nights in a row,

and the series airs in the fall.

Since October of 2010, I have been working on building a coffee show in the Nolita District of NYC. The shop is called Nolita Mart & Espresso bar and is located at 156 Mott Street between Broome Street and Grande Street. The owners and investers Selina Ho and James Fong has become amazing friends of mine throughout the 2 month building and design process. They are both visionaries in the food industry and have brought something to Nolita that has been lacking for years. This is my first commercial property outside of retail, so I am super xcitede to watch it grow!

We sourced two barns in upstate New York and had them torn down,

de-nailed, and shipped to the heart of New York City.

I create season installation elements based off our coffee products

and organic grocery store in the back of the coffee shop.

We are the flagship store for Stumptown Coffee Brooklyn NY. Tourist from around the

globe target this shop now for this one of a kind global coffee identity.

I hand crafted this coffee bar from re-claimed wood. The walls are

french subway tiles, and the graphic on the wall is one of my

free hand drawings to bring in some natural elements.

A Season For Chains

A light/chain wall installation that was 15 feet tall and 20 feet wide. I was trying to
create a glowing background to silhouette the figure of the models and pick up on the variety
of chain patterns. I used over 2000 feet of chain and knotted fabrics to create this look.

day in the park hill side while my team was slaving away in the office.

BIKE DAY LA!
An amazing graphic created for the weekend event held at Space 1520 in
North Hollywood, CA.The Event has gone on to become a staple for
bike lovers all over the greater Los Angeles area.

RA! RA! HOLIDAY!

Inspired by the Confetti Systems, this ceiling installation is 6' X 12'
featuring a mixture of glass,tissue paper and cellophane. The
atmosphere says; young, fun, party time.

CONFETTISYSTEM is Nicholas Andersen
and Julie Ho, a duo working as artists, stylists,
and designers. Their friendship, love of communal celebration,
and craft making has brought them together to create a new system.
The system is a collection of objects born from simple materials.
Tissue paper, cardboard, and silk are transformed into interactive
objects that create a point of focus where memories can be made
and a spontaneous collaboration between themselves and the
viewer is sparked. CONFETTISYSTEM occupies the space
that exists between the ephemeral and the permanent
and aims to evoke a sense of nostalgia and lighthearted fun.

WOODEN ESCAPE 2009
A crawling wooden sculpture that moves from wall to wall.
Over 45' long and twisting over 16' high. This creature is
made from sliced shipping crates and held together
with nails from a nail gun. The natural woods
provide a strong contrast to the Hermes orange.

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE
September 2009 - October 2009
I created a window set for the premiere of Where the Wild
Things Are that was on display from September to the end
of October 2009. The set up recreated an enchanted
scene where Max is being led into the store by one of the wild things.

Pretty Little Things

'MYSTERY JOURNEY SACK"

On the backside of every image tile, there is a pocket containing a black and white
photograph relating to the image on the front. So for the skull image below, the pocket
photograph is a pair of women's high heal shoes. Simply implying curiosity for the participant.

This 'mystery' series is a combination of laminates, screen prints, stenciling, ink
drawing, acrylic painting, and stitch binding. Even the canvas square are made
from various old painting backs giving each square a different thickness and weight.

A certain desire to see graphics on OSB wood. Digitally screen printed, glued, and taped

I wanted to capture 'ghost' images around the city, so I glued graphics to my car's
passenger side window and drove around until my wondering ladies found the perfect home.

While in school, you tend to acquire odds and ends jobs to make it though the
month. For six months, I worked as an illustrative artist for a home remodeling
catalogue based out of DC. So, it was my task to illustrate the popular style
of kitchen, bathroom, or home for the moment in an artistic contemporary
fashion that could be published along side the designers article. How lovely.

With several of my friend interested in the work I was producing through screen printing,
I developed a 'how to' website that showed the step by step instructions for generating
graphics. The website sampled some of my own work and examples of how other artists
have unconventionally used the process of screen printing.

A full assortment website for the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen group featuring the

various outstanding products receiving their coveted 'red dot' award. This project took over
two months, and featured over 58 products that received their design award for that year.

For four months I worked on developing an advertisement banner f
or Virginia Commonwealth School of the Arts. It consisted of possible
billboard and poster concepts along with an web page banner
sizedad real created for the school's website. Featured are the
series of story boards, concept images, and screen
shots from the final product.

David Colley attended Columbia University, New York, MA in Art History 1963;
University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, MFA in Graphic Design 1969 and at
University of California at Santa Cruz and at Harvard University, Cambridge. He
also worked with artist-musician John Cage, and with photographer Ansel
Adams. He has designed for the Container Corporation of America (Chicago),
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge), and for JC Penney (New York).
Poster design clients include the Chicago Symphony and Museum of
Contemporary Art (Chicago), Metropolitan Opera, Joffrey Ballet
(New York), Richmond Symphony and Colonial Williamsburg.
